A Faith Worth Having

“It’s a call to a faith that believes God at His word and lives accordingly.”

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Hebrews 11:6

This whole thing momma, this whole life, this whole motherhood, rests on what Jesus did for us and that we believe him. And though we are called to pursue Christ-likeness in our interactions with our family and the people around us, our success, or failure, does not equal our righteousness. Jesus, and His death and resurrection, are our righteousness. Nothing can be added to or taken from that truth. Before Jesus came, every Old Testament account you find points to a believer's faith in God and who He says He is, being “counted to him as righteousness.” Even though they messed up, their return to the Lord in faith, their repentance and leaning on God's offer of grace, made them “friends of God.”

Momma, the point is that God wants you to believe Him. Really believe in Him. To trust His character, anchor yourself in His faithfulness and His work on the cross and show your belief in Him by following His word as if it’s the truth for life…because it is. That’s it.

But, you’re gonna fail. You’ll probably stumble or hiccup (we’re raising humans, after all.) But when God tells us to be perfect as He is perfect, it’s not a call to how we see perfection, it’s a call to a mature faith. It’s a call to a faith that believes God at His word and lives accordingly. That’s how we love God the way He wants to be loved. It’s the only faith worth having.

Action steps:

  • Spend some time being honest with yourself and ask the Lord to show you one place in your heart that perhaps falters in its faith towards God: maybe your child’s future, your child’s health, your ability to parent, (fill in the blank.)

  • Read Psalm 139:23-24

Prayer: Faithful Father, You are worthy of all our faith. Help us where we struggle to believe, where our faith has faltered, where what’s in front of our eyes has worn us thin. Thank You that we can come boldly come before the throne of grace to get help and mercy where we need it. Help us to believe fully in You. In Jesus beautiful name.
