Be Still

“Trying to always have a plan for, and directing our own lives is exhausting, and it gets us nowhere.”

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5 (NLT)
Full disclosure - I’ve struggled lately. Struggled to find a purpose, a sense of direction in my life. I’ve felt completely out of whack, not knowing which way to go…how to act…what to feel. I feel like I’m stuck on a merry-go-round.
Then steps in today’s scripture. We are to trust in the Lord with all of our heart - all of it; not just the parts we are willing to allow Him to work in. In all parts of our hearts - trust Him. Do not depend on our own feelings or our own understanding. Why? Because our emotions lie to us. The only one who truly knows what is best for us, is God. He knows what is best. We can trust Him completely with every single choice we make. Every single circumstance in life.
Trying to always have a plan for, and directing our own lives is exhausting, and it gets us nowhere. Doing so affects many different aspects of life and puts us in a consistent rhythm of unrest. A sense of feeling unsettled. God has not called us to live that life, but rather He has called us to be still. To rest in Him. To trust Him with our whole hearts and to not depend on ourselves alone.
He will guide us through these seasons if we are still and resting in Him.
We can’t hear Him or sense His guiding if we are caught up in the hustle and bustle of life and aren’t taking a moment to slow down. Yes, there are busy seasons in life, but we should not live in a state of continually going…a constant state of hurry. God has designed us to need those moments in life where time seems to slow, and we are able to catch our breath.
Allow Him to refresh your spirit in those times. Allow Him to direct your path. Trust in Him. You just need to be still.
Action Steps:
Make sure that you are taking time each day to be still and rest in Him. Whether it be 5 minutes or 45. Take the time. Slow down and just rest in Him. Allow Him to speak to you.
While you’re doing that, take the time to listen to this song: “Here I Am” by JWLKRS Worship Featuring Ashley Hess.
Prayer: God, I thank You so much that Your ways are higher than mine. Thank You for always guiding me, even when I try to take the lead. Help me find that sense of rest and stillness in order to truly hear from You so that I can depend on Your leading and not my own. I love You, Lord. Amen.
