Blind Faith

“So when life gets hard, get your walking shoes on and march around praising and following God’s lead.”

“The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see.” Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭1‬ ‭MSG‬‬

As a kid, I can remember all the fun ways my Sunday School teachers would show us what it looks like to have faith. Sometimes they’d ask us if we could see the wind, and then show us that we can’t see the wind, just the effects of it. Or, they’d blindfold us, then give us instructions on where to go and how to move. These exercises taught me that faith is evidence of things unseen. And as a kid, it was easy to give my cares over to God.

But as we grow and mature, our childlike faith diminishes. Life gets complicated, and it becomes harder to blindly trust that God has everything under control.

One of my favorite Bible stories growing up was Joshua and the walls of Jericho. God told Joshua and his soldiers to march around Jericho once a day for six days. Then, on the seventh day, they were told to walk around Jericho seven times, while the priests blew their trumpets, and shout as loud as they could. They followed God’s leading and the walls of Jericho began to crumble, allowing Joshua and his people to claim the land for God. Now that was some blind faith!! It had to have sounded crazy to be told to walk around a huge fortress and that action was somehow going to give them the victory.

God doesn’t think like we do, and thank goodness for that! He sees what we can’t see and guides us to follow Him. So when life gets hard, get your walking shoes on and march around praising and following God’s lead.

By faith, we can do incredible things. We just have to let go of our way of thinking. Take that leap and give everything to God.

Yep, I mean everything!

Action steps:

  • Go to your Bible each day and read about how to strengthen your faith. Read about Joshua and how many times he had faith in God's plans.

  • Make a list of things or situations you need to hand over to God. Pray, and listen for His words to move you in the direction He wants for you.

  • Get involved with serving in your church! This can help you grow in your walk with God, too.

Prayer: Father God, open my eyes, not to see the world more clearly, but to see You. Open my eyes to see You working around me and in me. Nothing happens by accident. You orchestrate every day of my life. Allow me to see Your hand in the mundane and the fantastic. Help me to trust in what I cannot see, and believe in Your invisible presence. Help bring others into my life that bring me closer to You. Lord, give me peace. Amen.
