Chased by Grace

“What I do know is the same God who protected David, called Zacchaeus, and stepped down from heaven to save humanity is still pursuing you.”

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.” Psalm 23:6 NKJV

A fugitive is being relentlessly hunted by a king with questionable sanity, a king who once tried to kill his own son in a fit of rage. To evade death, he flees to other lands, hides in the wilderness, and at one point must feign insanity to keep from being killed. And yet through years of being on the run, his life is preserved, and he becomes king himself.

One of the most hated people in culture, after hearing about an incredible teacher, climbs a tree to lay eyes on the man everyone has been talking about. While in the branches, he is called by name and invited to share a meal, much to the outrage of “polite society”. The encounter leaves the tax collector completely changed.

Broken people in a broken world were lost in their sin, stumbling in darkness, carrying weights never meant for them. Powerless to change their situation, God Himself came down in human form and made the ultimate sacrifice, accomplishing what no mere human ever could.

Moms, I don't know what life looks like for you. I don't know what giants you are facing, what mountains are in your way, what is haunting you and seeking your defeat. What I do know is the same God who protected David, called Zacchaeus, and stepped down from heaven to save humanity is still pursuing you. He is actively seeking you out in order to show you love, and therefore we can be confident that His goodness and mercy will follow us, just as they followed those who came before us.

Action step:

  • Either mentally or on paper, list some ways you have seen God's goodness in your life and look for His goodness in the present.

Prayer: God, thank You for actively pursuing us in order to love us. You could have sat back and waited for us to come to You, could have made us have to chase Your goodness and mercy. Instead, You came to seek and save the lost, the marginalized, the outcast, and the broken. Will You help us have the same confidence in this truth that David did and keep our eyes open to see Your grace and favor in our lives? You are too good to us. Amen.
