Extravagant

“And it’s that extravagant love that sustains us through motherhood, flowing through us and pouring out onto those around us.”

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

It’s extravagant. It doesn’t make sense.

We’ll never comprehend the way God loves us.

It’s unthinkable. Only heaven knows just how far God would go to say He loves us.

The song “Extravagant” by Bethel Music could just write this whole devotional for me, but I’ll stop here, and you can listen to it for yourself.

Mom friend, God loves you so much. More than we will ever understand. More than we love our own children, and that’s a lot. He loves us so much that He took on human form, came to dwell among His creation, and then died so that we could be with Him for eternity. And He did this for us, for sinners, for broken people who haven't done anything to deserve His love.

You don’t need to do anything to receive it, just accept it. Mama, you may think you don’t deserve it, that you’re too broken (that’s a whole other topic…), but that doesn’t matter. Because of God’s great love for us, through Jesus, we can spend eternity with Him.

And it’s that extravagant love that sustains us through motherhood, flowing through us and pouring out onto those around us. When we let God’s love for us influence our mothering, it allows us to, in a very small way, love our children the way He loves them.

Today, take time to accept God’s extravagant love for you. You are a child of God, mom friend.

Action Steps:

Prayer: God, I’m so grateful for Your love. Even though I’ll never understand just how much You love, I pray that I’ll always strive to love others the way You love them. You are so, so good and loving. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Written by Cathrine, mom of 4, and Bethel Music, because their lyrics were just too good not to share
