Forgotten Miracles

“But friends - just don’t forget the miracle!”

“Then Jesus called his disciples and told them, “I feel sorry for these people. They have been here with me for three days, and they have nothing left to eat. I don’t want to send them away hungry, or they will faint along the way.” The disciples replied, “Where would we get enough food here in the wilderness for such a huge crowd?” Jesus asked, “How much bread do you have?” They replied, “Seven loaves, and a few small fish.” Matthew 15:32-34 (NLT)

While doing a re-read through the New Testament, I came across this passage in Matthew. Now, I have read this before, but something new stuck out to me this time. In this passage, Jesus is feeding 4,000. He only had seven loaves of bread and a few small fish, and He did a miracle. He fed all 4,000 people with only those items and still had some left over. An absolute miracle!

But this was not the first time Jesus had a crowd of people in the wilderness who were out late, ran out of food and were getting hungry. Jesus had already done this type of miracle before. Think back…remember when He fed 5,000? Yet here we are again, only one chapter later, and the disciples were concerned and perplexed on how they were going to feed all these people who had been there for three days and ran out of food.

They had forgotten the miracle.

How often in life does this happen to us? We go through a tough season, and we see God’s faithfulness and answered prayers throughout it all. We see the miracle. Then another tough season or situation arises, and we are confused, perplexed and distraught over it all. We question and we worry. We forget the miracle. We forget God’s faithfulness in the past. We forget how He took care of us. We forget the miracles we saw and how He provided.

Don’t forget His faithfulness. Don’t forget how He was with you before, and know He will be with you again. Don’t forget to look for the blessings in your life. Don’t be so caught up in your season that you miss God working in your life. Don’t put a limit on God and what He can do.

Trust him. Believe him. Seek him. Do all those things!

But friends - just don’t forget the miracle!

Action Steps:

  • Reflect on the miracles that you have seen in your life. Remember them. Even write them down. That way, when another tough season comes, you can look back and remember the miracle He has done before. Then you can move forward knowing that He will provide again.

  • Listen to the song: “Too Good to Not Believe” by Brandon Lake

Prayer: God, thank You so much for the miracles You have done in my life. You have worked in my life and been faithful. Help me to always remember that when tough situations arise again. Help me to never forget the miracles.
