God Is Like a Sports Mom

“Just as a sports mom cheers for her child, regardless of wins or losses, God's love for His children is unconditional and unwavering.”

“For the Lord delights in his people; he crowns the humble with victory.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭149‬:‭4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

One thing I’ve learned to do as a mom is to love the sports my kids play. I’m not a sporty person, never have been and probably never will be. But I love watching my kids play the sports they love. Seeing them succeed and have fun makes me happy and proud of them, even if I don’t understand what’s happening on the field. They don't need to be the best player out there as long as they are being a team player and having fun. I will love and support their endeavors!

God is just like us moms on the sidelines. He is there, watching and delighting in our endeavors. Just as a sports mom cheers for her child, regardless of wins or losses, God's love for His children is unconditional and unwavering. He wants us to reach our full potential, He wants us to have victory in all we put our hearts into. He wants us to build each other up and not let pride stop us from seeing Him in all we do.

So let’s teach our kids and remind ourselves that the best way for the Lord to delight in us is to be a team player, lifting others up, encouraging them to do their best, and glorifying God whether we succeed or fail. Just as Philippians 2:13 says, “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.”

Action steps:

  • Take the time to let your kids know how much you love them, no matter what. God has a plan, so trust Him.

  • Find a Bible verse to pray over each of your kiddos

  • Find a Bible verse that cheers you on when times are tough, and you need God on the sidelines cheering you on. Put it somewhere you will see it every day!
