“Let us be a people who rest in the knowledge of a God who will never forget us. We are indeed held by the nail-pierced hands of our Savior.”

“Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me.” Isaiah 49:15-19 (ESV)
Whether or not you nursed your baby or bottle-fed them, you understand where this verse is coming from. Feeding a newborn is consuming. Your mind is running constantly: When did they last eat? How much, or how long, did they eat? Which side did they feed on? Which side do I use first next time? Is it already time for them to eat? Will cluster feeding be the end of me? How can my nipples hurt so much? It feels impossible that you could forget to feed your child because of your love for them and your desire to care for them.
This is exactly the kind of love the Father has for us, and He loves us even deeper still.
The hands of God have our names written on them. The hands of Jesus, which were pierced through with nails on the cross, have your name written on them. The Holy Spirit holds you in His hands. Like people get tattoos to remember important parts of their life, God has us constantly at the forefront of His mind. What an amazing love! Let us be a people who rest in the knowledge of a God who will never forget us. We are indeed held by the nail-pierced hands of our Savior.
Jesus, help us see You holding our lives in Your hands. May we lean into this glorious truth as we hold our own children, knowing You love them infinitely more than we do.
