Inherited Faith

“We have to show them that most of the time faith is a choice; even when we’re tired, even when everything is going wrong, even when everything is going right, in all the situations.”

“I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down” Nehemiah 6:3

I lay in bed, in the dark, and I whisper to God “I’m too tired for this”.

It’s been a week. You know, one of those weeks that everyone is bickering, I’m weary, so much on my to-do list, so much driving to get everyone where they need to go, and golly do they all need to eat all the time!

He whispers back: “You’re doing a great work, for Me. No one else.”

And there it is….my choice. My choice to live out my faith. What am I to my kids if I don’t show them the love of Christ? If I don’t show them that this is where my knees hit the ground? In my tired, weary, worn thin moments they need to see that I rely on God. They need to see my faith lived out.

This might be a bit of a ramble because I’m tired, (remember?) but I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. My kids are inheriting my faith. What I show them, what they see lived out, that’s what they’re taking with them. I wasn’t prequalified for this position, that’s why I get exhausted and talk to God about it in the dark. It’s not about my qualifications, He qualifies me as I go. It’s about my choices when things get wonky or weary.

We have to show them that most of the time faith is a choice; even when we’re tired, even when everything is going wrong, even when everything is going right, in all the situations.

Action Steps:

Prayer: Father, this great work You’ve called us to? Yeah, we get tired. You know this. Pick us up and hold us. I love that it takes very little words from me, and You fully understand my heart. Thank You for making me feel supported and seen in the darkness when I cry out to You. Yes and Amen.
