My (Sippy) Cup Is Overflowing

"God’s cup never runs dry. Unlike that sippy cup, His blessings keep spilling out with no end."

“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” Psalm 23:5
Overflowing cups. It’s a mom thing—just not always in the spiritual sense. Sometimes, it’s a cup knocked off the table, a glass of milk spilled at dinner, or my very favorite, the upstairs bathtub overflowing and leaking through the kitchen ceiling. Yes, it really happened. Maybe it’s not liquid that’s overflowing in your world; it could be laundry or dishes or that pile of unopened mail.
Psalm 23:5 reminds us of a different kind of overflowing, though. One that is related to His abundant blessings. In the middle of life’s craziness, He’s preparing a table for you. Not drive-thru chicken nuggets that you eat while refereeing back seat battles, but a table—one that represents His provision, care, and peace.
The second part of the verse refers to anointing our heads with oil. Did you know that in Biblical days this was the utmost sign of blessing, honor and refreshment? In mom terms, it’s like God is saying, “I see you. I know you’re exhausted. Come sit beside me and let me refresh your soul.”
The very best part of this verse, though, is “my cup overflows”. Not with stress or exhaustion or anxiety, but with His goodness! Even in the roughest and messiest times of motherhood, He is pouring out His love, strength and grace—sometimes in ways we don’t even see immediately.
So mama, the next time you’re wiping up one of those literal overflows, remember: God’s cup never runs dry. Unlike that sippy cup, His blessings keep spilling out with no end.
Action steps:
Overflow to others by sharing an encouraging word, smile or quick text with someone who may need encouragement today
Let God refresh you - Take two minutes (even if you have to hide in a closet!) to breathe and soak up His presence.
Pause and pray - Before running to the next activity, take a moment to seek His overflowing blessings in the next thing you are about to do.
Prayer: God, I know that You see me when my cup feels empty. I get caught up in the noise of the world around me. You promise me that You are making my cup overflow, and that You’ll take away my stress and replace it with Your goodness. Help me to see Your provision, even in the small things. Thank You for being my source of strength and filling me up always. Amen.
