Refilled

“We will feel empty, and we will feel drained, but we have a God who wants to fill us.”

“Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.” Colossians 3:16 (NLT)

I’m not sure about you, but I get drained. Physically and emotionally drained.

I have come to a point that I am able to recognize when I am becoming drained and need to be refilled again. For me, being refilled comes from time with Jesus. More specifically, worship.

Our verse today talks about letting the message of Christ fill our lives and to “sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts”. There is no other moment that my soul feels refilled than when I am singing out and worshiping God. I become filled with Christ in those moments, and I am able to do what the rest of today’s verse says - being able to “teach and counsel each other with the wisdom he gives.” We need to be refilled if we are going to be led into opportunities to fill others, including our children.

Worship is how I refill.

In those moments of worship, I'm able to reflect and have gratitude. In those moments of vulnerability and knowing that each day, each moment, I need God to fill me, I am able to cry out to God and feel His presence lift and fill my spirit.

When I am filled with Christ, I am whole. Now I didn’t say that I am perfect, and I have patience like no other, or life becomes full of sunny skies with no rain. I said that I am whole. I have peace and I have confidence. I have strength and I have grace and mercy. I still get drained, but I love that I am able to go to God in a spirit that is thankful and full of gratitude for what He has done, and what He will do.

Coming to him with grateful hearts opens us up to feel that peace and confidence He gives. Friends, we have to keep this message of Christ in us. We have to keep it in our hearts at all times. It has to fill us to the very tippy top of our head.

We will feel empty, and we will feel drained, but we have a God who wants to fill us. We have a God who will meet us where we are and wrap His arms around us. We have a God who wants us to come to Him.

Action Step:

  • Reflect on what your worship is. Find what makes you feel whole in Christ. Is it listening to worship music? Is it reading the Bible? Is it spending quiet time with a cup of coffee and just praying? Find what helps you to connect with God and feel His presence in your life. Then, every time that you feel you are starting to run on empty and need to be refilled, go to that worship. Go to that moment and be refilled by the only one who truly makes you feel whole again.
